pg. 56 WLW, Mimara's POV (narration).
"The pillared depths are uniformly black. The parallax of intervening trunks slowly scissors a thousand grottoes into invisibility. It almost seems a game, the accumulation of hidden spaces. Enough to conceal nations"

Could Bakker be hinting that there is more to the Meorn Wilderness than what we have seen? I think so.

Hmmm...

As the series has gone on, I've come to the conclusion that I cannot rule anything out due to RSB's major layers of revelation technique.

But could you elaborate on what you're suspecting?  Whole nations of sranc?  Whole nations of undead in the trees?  Other?

It'd be fun to see Bakker one-up Tolkien like Tolkien one-upped Shakespeare.

Plato had the whole world in a cave, yeh?

For some reason, this is what that passage reminds me of.

I dunno. Maybe just some untapped resources, either for or against The Ordeal. I mean multitudes of sranc is the obvious choice. But what of less obvious solutions. The obscure.

How about some nonmen erratics running around the woods in loin cloths?
Maybe the lost tribe of Eanna. A whole nation of concealed power. For the consult to throw at the Ordeal? For Kellhus to use as fodder against the Consult?

I wasnt really getting at much, just pulling vague meanings out of foggy air.

I've voiced my thoughts about a Xiuhanni Inchoroi worship culture...

But otherwise, I expect some Dune parallels. All of a sudden, something worse than the Inchoroi threatens...

Reverse Dune. Earwa is the scattering, Eanna the old empire, the Honored Matre coming from Eanna.

The world if forfeit without Duncan Idaho!

The Consult seems to think something is there, why else start where they started at the end of TWP, why not start in the direction the Dunyain came from, go west from momemn, since he came to momemn from the east?

And Mek even has the first encounter with him, so they should have a tip off there as well that not only did he come from east of momemn but he came from north of Atraithau.

Sort of hard for the Consult to miss all that.

But they did miss it, and they started their search near Meorn.

It seems they might have a reason for going that direction, as if they might know where an unknown group of humans 'different' humans might come from, and what they guessed was in the direction of Meorn.

And speaking of herding, why the fuck have so many hunting Sranc over to the east and south of the Meorn for twenty years if you're planning on a pretty narrow route?  Is Kellhus herding some Meorn nation towards Golgotteranth?

Very nice. Defiantly had the same thoughts on Meorn (no way they randomly found a group of natives by accident and started plying them for knowledge on the Dunyain).

And I didn't connect the sranc. Thats a viable possibility. I like it.
