I saw a video on youtube with that theory yesterday. It is cool, but honestly I don't believe it's true.

I like it more and more every day, because it is absolutely a thematic powerhouse, even if it isn't a technical masterpiece.
Also to point out i'm British by birth so i fully accept the terrible things we did over centuries when we were the predominate power.
Iran seems to have been subject to a propaganda campaign as it's hardly this backwards country, they had more females in universities than most western nations till the recent Ahmadinejad era where they have started to implement "old man conserative shit"
At the start of his presidency in 2007-08, women's gains in education permeated every level, composing 44 percent of students pursuing associate degrees, 55 percent of bachelor's degree students, 43 percent of master's degree students, and a high 58 percent of students pursuing a professional doctorate
Women also dominated 6 of the 7 academic fields offered at university level, save for engineering, comprising the majority of students studying veterinary sciences, basic sciences, human sciences, medical sciences, agriculture and the arts
It moved backwards Ahmadinejad but is (far too) slowly moving back towards what it was
Iran has never went to war with anyone in centuries. Israel doesn't want any competition in the region. If Iran switch to nuclear power they can sell of much more of their oil to china and become even richer. US doesn't want China having a huge source of power and Israel don't want any competition in the region so they can continue to build illegal settlements and get rid of the Palestinians.
That was my first impression as well, I read the book too fast.
Now that its sunk into my shell of a skull I love it more than I did before TUC. Give it time young apprentice
...
Thank, pail .What I understood from Bakker was slightly different: Not that he wanted the section removed, but that the publisher wanted a "lighter" book so he consented to having the italic section and the afterword removed in order for them to buy it.
Thanks for posting this, pail.Any hint if "The Crabiqiad" (lol) will be all devoted to Crabby or will have a glimpse at least of what happened to the others?
My understanding is that it's just Crabby. In fact, Bakker actually said the other reason he wants to make Crabiqiad the first book is how much it will piss off people who are waiting for a follow-up to the ending of TUC.
As much as I trust Bakker's ability to write an interesting tale, I just don't find Crabicus interesting. I hope he doesn't go so OTT-Bakkerish in his impishness that he writes a disconnected story that holds no significance to the wider story, or his series will suffer as a result of it. Pissing people off is fine (even me ), but I hope he doesn't do the series a disservice.
I suppose I can hint the Crabiqiad does include a number of other established loose ends. Classic Bakker promotion. The story is much less disconnected from events as he seems to think and other narrative strands might not be as limited in scope or word count as he made seem.
