Wow--Meyna and Somnambulist, that's awesome.  I never thought about the Inchoroi having any analogues in our world, but it seems obvious now.

On a related point, i'm a little confused about the clam/skull.  Does it point in the nose direction like a shark's fin or is it perpendicular to the nose like a fan or crown...or does Bakker leave it up to us?

This is the best description of the Inchies, from The False Sun.

The creature stood naked, as was his want, his wings folded into wicked hooks about either side of his great skull, which would have been cumbersome, had it not curved into a crest, narrow and deep, like an oyster set on end. A proportionate face hung from the fore, loutish with the absence of expression, nostrils drawn into shining gashes, sockets plugged with lobes of bare white meat. A second face filled the mouth, sheathing a second skull fused within the crocodilian jaws of the greater. Second eyes regarded the Hero-Mage with leering expectation. Second lips grinned about teeth like nails...

My bold.  I read that as being 'inline' like pointing to the front.

Thanks, guys.  FB, yeah, I can see that.  Didn't realize I was moving in that direction til you pointed it out.  Hm.  In retrospect, I think I wanted them all to be more like Yatwer (very cosmic with only a hint of anthropomorphism), but that obviously didn't last long.  Now, it's like a creature feature.  lol

Meyna:  I agree totally.  I always thought the Inchoroi were based on the Egyptian god Sobek  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sobek, what with their 'crocodilian jaws' and association with fertility/sex:

"Unis is Sobek, green of plumage, with alert face and raised fore, the splashing one who came from the thigh and tail of the great goddess in the sunlight…Unis has appeared as Sobek, Neith’s son. Unis will eat with his mouth, Unis will urinate and Unis will copulate with his penis. I imagined the Inchies a bit like Sobek, with the front of the head being crocodilian still but a bit shorter to allow the back of the head to elongate into a crest. To paraphrase the head is described as "a crest so large as to be cumbersome except for its thinning at the tip". I imagine the crocodilian jaws to be shorter to allow for the human head to fit more comfortably in its gape.
