Searle defends the concept of direct ("naive") realism, claiming to refute both the claims of both Idealists (all there is the Idea of objects) and Naturalists (all you see is the indirect creations of the mind drawing info from the physical world).
Not 100% convinced Searle really handles the problem of hallucinations...

I haven't watched the seminar, but I wonder if Searle's 'direct realism' is ontological or epistemological. I think 'direct realism' is a live option *ontologically*, but it's a dead letter epistemologically.
